Don't you just love the smell of coffee

Today we roasted our own coffee beans at home. I got the instructions off of Sweet MariasThe site is full of all kinds of coffee related information and full instructions on the various ways to roast our own beans. This being by far the easiest. The only thing is you need a specific kind of popper. One of the two listed is the West Bend Poppery II. I found mine for a $1.50 at a resale shop.

It starts with these flat greyish green coffee beans. Its hard to believe after putting them in the air popper for about four to five minutes they become the beautiful brown beans seen below. I didn't expect all the outer chaff that comes off of the beans, but we directed it down the sink...no problem. And, they really crackle and pop!
After cooling, store in a loosely covered in glass container as they release CO2 for awhile. They say it's at it's peak after 4-24 hours, but who can wait! And the smell is delicious! Mmmm... fresh coffee!
