Name that Snake

We found this little snake living in between the bricks of our neighbor's house. It's about 18 inches long and I think it's quite young.

What kind of snake is he?
I mean besides cute! :)

Looks like a gartersnake to me, but not sure which variety. I guess that would depend on what types you have in your area.

He sure was smiling though!

I go with gartersnake too, Does he have "racing" stripes on his back? That is a gartersnake attribute.
